The Trans AM Series Presented by Pirelli kicked off its season this weekend at Sebring International Raceway. The action kicked off Saturday with plenty of pomp and circumstance in the Big Machine Vodka Spiked Coolers TA2 race. NASCAR icon Richard Petty served as the Grand Marshall.

Part-Time Xfinity Series driver Connor Mosack dominated early until he made a costly mistake at lap 20 and allowed Austin Green to pounce. However, Green’s lead didn’t last long. Rafa Matos took the lead at lap 21. A full-course caution closed the race at lap 23. Matos got some redemption and led the field to the finish after losing the TA2 championship on a tie-breaker to Thomas Merrill last season. On Sunday the racing continued with another 100-mile sprint. TrackHouse Racing owner and pole-sitter Justin Marks dominated in the TA class early on until an alternator issue took him out of contention at lap 18. Another early contender was Paul Menard but he suffered a mechanical issue at lap 16. Road course legend Boris Said was in contention until a fender/tire issue on lap 20. Australian-born driver Matt Brabham was able to hold off his Ford teammate Adam Andretti for the win. Keith Grant rounded out the podium. The Trans Am Series Presented By Pirelli returns March 9-11 at NOLA Motorsports Park. Catch all the Trans Am Series action on their Youtube Page.
