As Greg Anderson looks for his sixth Pro Stock Championship, he knows the pressure he’s facing, and at this stage of his career, he’s enjoying it. I had the chance to ask the all-time winningest Pro Stock driver about the pressure he’s dealing with this weekend and his mindset on dealing with the pressure.
“I revel in it. I need it. These days, I need a little extra motivation to jumpstart my heart. Those days of having butterflies before the first round seem to have disappeared. It seems like I have to artificially manufacture those feelings. So this should do that for me. This should get me focused. In my later years, I seem to respond to the taller challenges. I’ve done this before and I certainly know how to do it."
Anderson is frustrated by his lack of wins lately but hasn’t let it affect his mindset. “It’s a slug in the guts every Sunday. I feel like these last several races I should have won and I haven’t. So it weighs on you. I seem to be able to, after a day or two, flush it down the toilet and show up to the next race as confident as ever and I’ll do the same thing this weekend. I love racing at Pomona. It’s going to be a feel-good weekend, I’m looking forward to it."
Greg Anderson faces stiff competition from Dallas Glenn and Aaron Stanfield. The In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals kickoff Friday., with qualifying round one for Pro Stock starting at 12:30pm PST. You can catch all the action on FS1 or NHRA.TV.
