Press Release | DARLINGTON RACEWAY
In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, and with the growing threat of Hurricane Milton off the Gulf Coast of Florida, Darlington Raceway will open one of its campgrounds for FREE to evacuees seeking temporary refuge beginning Wednesday, October 9, at 8 a.m. ET.
NASCAR’s original superspeedway will open its East Campground, located inside of Turns 3 & 4, as a safe destination for individuals needing a place to bring their campers, trailers and vehicles to escape the impacts of these storms.
“Darlington Raceway is committed to helping our friends across the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida and surrounding states during this time of need,” said Darlington Raceway President Josh Harris. “We hope to provide a sense of relief by offering a place to stay for evacuees during this time of adversity. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who is suffering as a result of these storms.”
Evacuees will make their entry to the infield East Campground via Gate 39A, just off of Highway 151 (Harry Byrd Highway). Directional Signage will be displayed to gain easy access to the East Campground. Anyone arriving prior to 8 a.m. ET on Wednesday, October 9 will be staged in a secure area until the campground is open.
The East Campground has both electrical and water hookups for recreational vehicles (RVs), while an adjacent dry camping area will be open for those with pop-up campers and tents. In addition, the track will open a complimentary shower & restroom facility near the East Campground. No commercial vehicles are permitted.
Evacuees must have all pets and domestic animals on leashes while on the property. Livestock are not permitted.
To further aid in the ongoing hurricane relief efforts, Darlington Raceway will host a special Track Laps for Charity on Thursday, October 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., providing fans the chance to drive their personal vehicles around the track for a donation of $25. All proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to support those affected by Hurricane Helene.
